The Rock 'n' Roll movement in Mexico was not merely isolated to Mexico and other areas of Spanish influence; rather, the records made such an impact to the culture surrounding Rock 'n' Roll that the music was felt in other countries internationally. Sharing well over 1,000 miles of border with the United States, it should be understood that the Los Rockin Devil's unique style was no exception to Mexico. Nonetheless, Rock 'n' Roll had several groups starting up in Mexico, the majority of which did not create their own melodies. That is to say, several of the Mexican Rock 'n' Roll bands adapted the most popular songs being played north of the border into a more personalized music. For example, in the United States, "Hang on Sloopy" by The McCoys was adapted in Mexico as "Hey Lupe" by Los Rockin Devil's. This transition is what's known as the passage from "Rock 'n' Roll" to "Rocanrol." Los Rockin Devil's adapted music from: Orfeón produced Los Rockin Devil's throughout most its Rocanrol career, either under its own icon or that of its Dimsa subsidiary. However, the very first record was produced under the Tambora banner in 1964, a rarity among collections. Approximately three to four dozen records were made since then, including several 7" singles and EP's and a handful of Greatist Hits albums. Many of their songs were hits, earning the ensemble 5 gold records and 3 silver records. In Idolos del Rock's reader poll of the best music of 1966, Los Rockin Devil's was voted the best Mexican Band of the Year, receiving 3,227 votes. Los Hermanos Carrion, the most recognized group of the era, earned second place, beat by LRD by a full 545 votes. The archival magazine reports that the remaining top five are as follows (in case you were wondering): Locos del Ritmo, Los Yaki, and Los Apson Boys, respectively. These entrancing and award-winning cuts by Los Rockin Devils include songs like "Bule Bule," "Perro Lanudo," and "Hey Lupe." Below is a list of the various albums produced by Los Rockin Devil's; although the list may be incomplete, it offers a glimpse into the magnetic style and diverse selection that the group had to offer.
